How does sound impact us? Where on one side the screeching sound of moving furniture gives tingling sensation in body while on the other side sound of calming sea waves loosens the muscles of our body. Just like loud sound of clash startles us, likewise the soothing sound of chimes calms our mind.
Because sound impacts us on elementary level which involves neural, physiological and biochemical reactions in our body. That’s how our body and mind sync with the sound. And that’s the principle behind the ancient practice of sound bath.
What is sound bath?
Sound bath is a meditative experience where the person who attends is bathed in sound. So basically just like in bath a person immerse in water, here they immerse in deep sound vibration, so they feel enveloped in it. During sound bath, sound is the guide that brings the awareness to the present moment. Instruments that creates sound waves are of various kinds, like chimes, gings, singing bowls or tuning forks.
Sound bath is different from listening to your favourite music as a relaxation. While in music there is melody and repetitive beats that the brain recognizes. Whereas, in sound bath the idea is to release. So instead of hooking to a melody, you want your brain to let go.
The combination of sounds is not just heard but also felt by the physical body. Different instruments offer unique frequencies which body perceives. These sound waves engage the nervous system and inculcate deep sense of relaxation.
